FAQ
What will I learn about myself that I didn’t know before?
You will learn about how your body is built to respond to certain foods and to movement. These results are personal to you, as your DNA is unlike anyone else’s.
You may well be the first person in your family to access this valuable information, as these direct-to-consumer, genetic tests have only become available in recent years; particularly how your genes relate to your metabolism.
For example, in terms of weight, you’ll learn if you’re more resistant to weight loss than others — and what to do about it as a result. In nutrition, you’ll learn if you should limit gluten, coffee or salt, and how well you process fat and carbohydrates.
Is this covered by insurance?
No. My Health & Longevity Blueprint is not covered by health insurance. Health coaching programs and genetic testing aren’t usually covered by insurance.
Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for the program?
Yes, you may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for some or all of the program. You’ll need a letter from your doctor or healthcare professional that outlines how the program will prevent disease and qualify as a medical expense.
It is worth speaking to the company that manages your HSA for more details, as the terms of HSAs can vary.
What if I find out that I have a genetic disease?
The genes tested through My Health Blueprint are not disease-causing genes.
Instead, we test for genetic differences that affect your metabolism, particularly weight, appetite and energy. These genes do not determine your destiny but they do influence your health. Our health is a combination of our genes plus our environment. Knowing your genetic profile can help you to make relevant, lifestyle choices.
There is one variant of a gene tested in our genetic panel that is believed to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later in life. That gene is called ApoE and is involved in cholesterol transport. However, there are lifestyle interventions through nutrition and exercise that can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.
I live outside the United States. Can I still take part in the program?
No, unfortunately the program is only available to people who live in the US at this time. We hope to expand to other countries soon.
Will getting a genetic test affect my ability to get insurance or employment?
In the United States, it is against the law to discriminate based on genetic information. The Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA) was passed in 2008 and extended in 2009 to prevent employers and insurance, using information from direct-to-consumer genetic tests to deny health insurance or charge higher premiums. You can read more about GINA here.
We do not pass your information to any third-party, nor does our partner in genetic testing 3X4 Genetics. You can read more about 3X4’s secure data policies here.
Can I talk to someone about the program as I have other questions?
Yes, you can reach out at any time to our team at hello@juleswalters.com. We’d love to hear from you.
