Aug 8, 2025: Prioritize sleep; and 36 magic bullets

Sleeping woman. Calm clouds and blue sky

Welcome to this week’s edition of Boost Brain Health, sharing two healthy habits and one lesson.

Two Brain Health Habits

Prioritize sleep. It’s only in recent years that we’ve discovered the brain’s glymphatic system, which washes our brains a bit like a car wash, and only works when we’re asleep.

The glymphatic system sits just inside our skull and gets rid of all the cellular debris.

A few deep breaths. One of the easiest things we can do each day to boost brain health is just to remember to breathe.

A few deep breaths draws more oxygen to the brain, calms our nervous system and improves decision making.

One Lesson

It’s not one magic bullet but 36. Neurologist Dr Dale Bredesen has made it his life’s work to figure out how to reverse Alzheimer’s.

While most of us have been focused on finding one magic bullet, like one drug or one lifestyle hack, Dr Bredesen has shown that the magic number of interventions is not one but 36.

Those interventions include high-quality fish oil, removing toxins and mold, getting more oxygen to the brain and improving sleep.

You can read more of his work through the Bredesen protocol.

One Quote
