Each Friday, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson and an inspirational quote, to ponder on your health journey.

No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.

Two Nano Health Habits

Walking: That old chestnut! 7,000 steps a day cuts in HALF your chances of heart disease. If 7,000 steps is too many, even 2,700 steps a day deliver health benefits. The Health app on iPhones and Google Fit on Android make it easy to count them.

Afternoon protein shakes: When that sugar craving hits mid-afternoon, how about a protein shake instead of cookies? You can mix in fruit and honey for the sweet taste, plus protein powder, chia seeds, turmeric and almond milk for a delicious drink. Or try a few different recipes and create your own energy boost.

One Lesson

New habit, new prompt: Research has shown that everything we do is determined by prompts. Traffic lights turn green, we move forward. Our alarm rings, we get up. So if you want a new habit, find a new prompt.

For example, if you want to walk first thing in the morning, try putting your walking shoes by your bed.
