March 21, 2025: How we age; and what might be troubling your gut

Happy Friday! Each week, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson, and an inspirational quote to ponder on your health journey.
No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.
Two Nano Health Habits
Take up cancer screenings. We’re lucky to live in an era when we can be screened for cancers; particularly colon, breast, cervical, and lung cancers.
Evidence shows that the earlier these cancers are detected, the better our chances of survival.
Uncomfortable gut? Check FODMAPs. FODMAPS are a type of carbohydrates that may not be easily digested. They produce gas as they ferment in our system.
If your gut doesn’t feel right, it’s worth checking how to eat low-FODMAP foods. The food class was created by Monash University in Australia, which pioneered FODMAP research. Monash has a free app you can download.
One Lesson
How we age. Aging takes a toll on our genes. We gather genetic mutations during our lifetime, as well as changes in the way our genes are turned on and off. A new study shows these two processes interact:
