August 16, 2024 – Blood sugar, managing stress and kicking ass

Green shoots

Each Friday, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson and an inspirational quote, to ponder on your health journey.

No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.

Two Nano Health Habits

Eat then move: Blood sugar levels increase with age and too much sugar damages our cells. A good rule of thumb is to eat, then move. Moving puts the fuel to good use.

Test blood pressure at home: You don’t need to wait for your annual check up to measure your blood pressure. You can measure it at home. You can find a validated blood pressure monitor at validatebp.org.

One Lesson

Managing stress: Up to 80 per cent of visits to primary care doctors are stress related. That’s a lot.

Taking just a few minutes to breathe deeply signals to your brain that you are safe and reduces stress. Try it. Breath in through your nose for a count of four, out through your mouth for a count of four. Limit to three times in a row. It’s simple and powerful.

One Quote

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.” Maya Angelou
