Jan 3, 2025 – Avoid heating plastics; elite brain fuel; and the power of broccoli

Fresh broccoli

Happy Friday! Each week, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson, and an inspirational quote to ponder on your health journey.

No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.

I also have a free masterclass on our metabolic blueprint and how our DNA affects our weight, energy, sleep and more. You can watch it at: https://juleswalters.com/masterclass/.

Two Nano Health Habits

Avoid heating food in plastic containers: Plastic containers have phthalates in them. They are chemical compounds that can make plastics flexible.

Research has shown phthalates can disrupt our hormones, particularly when heated, so keep plastics out of the microwave.

Run our brains on elite fuel: Just as high-performing cars run well on elite fuel, so do our brains. We can start to build a resilient brain by getting enough omega-3 fatty acids. They are our brain’s elite fuel.

Good sources of omega-3s are fish, fish oil and flaxseed.

One Lesson

Broccoli has a magic ingredient: Not all vegetables are the same. Some have magic powers, particularly cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower.

The magic ingredient is called sulforaphane, which is released when we chew or cut the vegetables. The less we cook them, the more sulforaphane remains.

Sulforaphane activates a range of protective genes that particularly help keep our gut lining intact. So, get chewing on that raw broccoli!

One Quote

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
