Oct 11, 2024 – Being valued, midlife belly fat, and plant-based foods
Happy Friday! Each week, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson, and an inspirational quote to ponder on your health journey.
No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.
Meanwhile, a big thank you to everyone who downloaded a free copy of my new ebook Nano Health Habits. It’s now available to buy on Amazon and out in paperback later this year. Just search for the title.
Two Nano Health Habits
Be part of a team that values you: Being part of a team that sees your value will build your strength every day. That’s easier said than done, and somewhat out of your control. But, you can make a plan to take your energies where they will be valued.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants: I love this summary of how to eat by author Michael Pollan. His 2011 book Food Rules offers common sense ideas we can all recognize, such as: “It’s not food if it arrived through the window of your car.”
One Lesson
The midlife belly fat is not your fault: One of the truths about growing older is not just the grey hairs and wrinkles. For women, fat shifts and settles in our belly. Great, thanks!
What’s driving that shift is a change in hormones, particularly a drop in estrogen and a relative increase in testosterone.
That doesn’t mean we have to put up with midlife bellies. Belly fat or visceral fat is a risk factor for heart disease, so it’s well worth working to reduce it.
