Feb 14, 2025 – Boosting brain health; and the quality of sleep

Happy Friday! Each week, I’m sharing two nano health habits, a lesson, and an inspirational quote to ponder on your health journey.
No one’s yet discovered the elixir of youth. There is no one fix for a longer, healthier life. What we do have, though, are nano or micro habits that together make all the difference.
Two Nano Health Habits
Turn off all electronics at least an hour before bed. Turning off all electronic devices an hour before bed can make a big difference to sleep.
The blue light from televisions and cell phones prevents our body from releasing the sleep hormone melatonin.
Your lifestyle, your brain health. Your lifestyle is the biggest influence on your brain’s health.
Sleep matters, as does nutritious brain food that’s high in omega-3 fatty acids, like fatty fish; such as salmon and sardines.
One Lesson
Brain boost with choline. A new survey has quantified how much choline a day we need to boost brain performance and lower the odds of dementia.
The answer is between 333 and 356 milligrams per day. A piece of salmon has about 187 milligrams; an egg will deliver about 150 grams; and an average piece of chicken will give you 72 milligrams.
